Introduction

Eidalimus is a genus of soldier flies with two representatives in the USA and Canada, four species in Mexico and Central America, one species in Brazil, and one in Argentina (Woodley 2001). A discussion of the Nearctic Eidalimus species can be found in James (1965).

Characteristics

Eidalimus can be distinguished from other Nearctic Pachygastrinae by the following characteristics: Antenna inserted below middle of head in lateral view; scutellum moderately convex above, with wide posterior rim; sides of scutum with flattened hairs; R4 and R5 separate (James 1981).

This page is a Tree of Life Branch Page.

Each ToL branch page provides a synopsis of the characteristics of a group of organisms representing a branch of the Tree of Life. The major distinction between a branch and a leaf of the Tree of Life is that each branch can be further subdivided into descendent branches, that is, subgroups representing distinct genetic lineages.

For a more detailed explanation of the different ToL page types, have a look at the Structure of the Tree of Life page.
