Scanning electron micrographs. A, B- Hawaii, central North Pacfic, 85 mm ML. A- Sucker with outer horny ring in place. B- Sucker with outer horny ring removed. The more compressed appearance of this suckers is probably due to the viewing angle and perhaps damage to the sucker.
