Comments
|
A very large cricket common in savanna woodland. It is only seen and heard in the early rains (about December), when adults emerge from the ground at night. Males sit at the entry of their burrow and produce a very loud sustained shrilling.

Comments
|
This species is confined to rock outcrops in grasslands. The male advertises his territory with brilliant colors and a "push-up" display. If he is startled, his colors fade to grey within a minute or two. Females and young are grey and cryptic.

I think agamas have recently been revised, and what we used to know as planiceps is now mwanzae.
